Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast invented Dungeons and Dragons. They’re an American publisher of games, primarily based on fantasy and science fiction themes.

Goal

In the absence of print publication Dragon, which ran from 1976-2007, Wizards of the Coast wanted a new digital platform to excite, educate and entertain both existing and new players of the legendary tabletop role-playing game Dungeons and Dragons. It needed to be an editorial brand, providing trustworthy, expert knowledge around game developments and tactics, as well as offering a platform for licensees to spotlight new merchandise.

Solution

Dragon was reimagined and relaunched as Dragon +, an iOS, Android and browser based digital bi-monthly packed with the latest news, previews, reviews, interviews and how-tos. With direct access to and participation from the Wizards of the Coast team, Dragon+ quickly became the go-to oracle for all things Dungeons and Dragons.

Results

Dragon+ ran for 41 issues and had a huge and positive impact on the Dungeons and Dragons community. When it closed in August 2022, content production continued over at dndbeyond.com.
